Inside

Moillard-Grivot

(Nuits-Saint-Georges)

In the Cellar of Moillard-Grivot

Comming from Dijon on the edge of Nuits-Saints-Georges on the left hand side, there is the hall-like building of Moillard-Grivot. Though it doesn't look too inviting, in the inside there hides a cellar and a degustation-room that really again are worth a visit. There one finds a wide variety of climates of the Côte d'Or and especially of the wines bottled by the domain Thomas-Moillar which can be very impressive.

Bottle Samples:

whites

Puligny-Montrachet 1985
Moillard-Grivot
Bright yellow. In the fragrance flint-stone, toast aromas, lemon and banana. In the mouth citric fruit, flint-stone, not so much body. Mature Puligny which has its best days probably already behind.

reds

Côte de Beaune Villages 2000
Domaine Guy Didier
Strawberry red. Red fruit, especially strawberry and red fruit jelly in nose and mouth. In the finish slightly chocolate notes. Solid Côte de Beaune Villages.

Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos de Thorey 1er Cru 2000
Domaine Thomas-Moillard
Rather bright strawberry red. In the nose red fruit, forest berry, vanilla and cooked fruit. In the mouth red apple peal, strawberry, pepper and slight earth tones. All in all rather elegant and fine. Already very open as it is typical for the vintage.

Vosne-Romanée Beaux-Monts 1er Cru 2000
Domaine Thomas-Moillard
Deeper colour and stronger, like the red of preserved cherries. In the nose blackberry, blueberry and cherry stones and some wood. In the mouth acidity like from sucked cherry stones, blackberry, blueberry, plum. Rather soft with some wood and slightly green tannins. Worm finish.

Corton Clos du Roi 2000
Domaine Charles Thomas
Cherry red. Toast aroma, red pepper (capsicum) and cranberries. In the mouth closed with some tannin and present acidity. Appears at the moment a bit unbalanced. Have to await the development.
