Right through Chambolle

Amiot-Servelle

(Chambolle-Musigny)

Madam Amiot-Servelle whom we had made an appointment with welcomed us at the door and told us to get back in our car and follow her in hers. So we followed her in the small village from the house where they lived to the place where they make their wine. Here the wines rest in their barrels - not in a underground cellar, but in an unobtrusive but cold storage hall. This domaine is very useful for making a small trip through the different climates of Chambolle-Musigny and to compare them. You can't count these wines to the strongest and most concentrated ones in Burgundy, but are hardly surpassed for their finesse and excellence. Unfortunately - also at this place - everything is sold out much too fast. This domain is no more a quiet tip.

rot:

Chambolle-Musigny 1998 Barrel sample
Bright colour of ruby. Cranberries, raspberries, fine fragrance, brighter kind of good tannins, slightly spicy, scents of wood.

Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 1998 Barrel sample
Colour of pomegranate. Blueberries in the aroma. In the mouth additionally tones of vanilla and red apple peal. Very good acidity, elegant and fine tannins.

Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Derrière-la-Grange 1998 Barrel sample
Darker and much richer. Concentrated aromas, vanilla. In the mouth the wood still comes to the fore, but pleasent fruit, mainly blackberries and plums, are waiting behind. Enduring, in the aftertaste still some buttermilk from the Malo. Persistent. Will be very good.

Clos de Vougeout Grand Cru 1998 Barrel sample
About the same colour, but not so shining. Vanillla and spicy aromas. Dark berries, strong tannin, slight green components. Vanilla wood, and slightly hot. The tannin isn't as sweet as it was with the Derrière-la-Grange. Still closed, but harmonic.

Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 1998 Barrel sample
One of the climates of Burgundy that are most demanded - not only, but perhaps because of the name...
Ruby red. In the fragrance wood, roasting aromas, dark fruit, cranberries and some cherry. In the mouth morellos, dark sweet tannins, sophisticated acidity, but still some malo. Toast aromas. Round and very enduring. Great wine.
