Domaine Georges Roumier

(Chambolle-Musigny)

Domaine Georges Roumier

Without doubt this domain must regarded as one of the best ones of the Côte. It is here where one finds some of the most impressive Chambolles that intensively accentuate their Terroir.

We sampled the 1999 vintage from the wood. It is too early for final judgements of the 2000 harvest, although the vintners seem not perfectly happy - probably there is a little lack of acidity. Keeping in mind the qualities of this domain, however, the wines will doubtlessly turn out well.

Barrel samples:

Chambolle-Musigny 1999
Dark. Juicy, Blackberries, dark fruit, chocolate. Warm finish.

Morey-St.-Denis Clos de la Bussière 1999
Cherry red. Still slightly closed. Resin. Touches of wood, cocoa, good tannin and good acidity. A good strong Morey.

Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1999
Cherry red. Touches of wood, resin, fine tannin, good acidity, some chocolate and cherries. Closed. Should be counted among the best Chambolle Premier Crus.

Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1999
Dark. Earthy tones, pine needles and blackberry. Spices and tobacco. Full-bodied and very good.

Ruchottes-Chambertin 1999
Cherry red. Slightly lighter than the Les Amoureuses. Closed and still a little edge. Red apple, fine strong tannin, good acidity, chocolate and dark cherries.

Bonnes-Mares 1999
Very dark, very intensive. Cocoa, blackberries, Terroir notes. Pleasant, fine sweetness, fine tannin and good acidity. Very harmonic, very long. Spices and touches of elder wood. Boiled fruit. A grand wine.

Bottle samples:

Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1998
Cherry red. Very intensive. Is fun already. Full-bodied. Touches of almonds and chocolate. Good tannin, dark cherries. Very good. Best from 2005.
